Mechanical Specs and Fuel Economy

The '20 Explorer offers two engines this model year: a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and a more powerful turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. The four-cylinder is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, delivering 300 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. The V6, available on the higher-tier trims, makes a whopping 400 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. The Explorer also offers all-wheel-drive for those that need a bit more traction for inclement weather, rough terrain, or towing. A rear-wheel-drive Explorer with the 2.3-liter engine gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg city/highway combined, while the all-wheel-drive model is rated at 23 mpg combined.
