Now that Ford has officially been revealed the much-anticipated 2021 Bronco, so many questions have been answered about its particulars, from powertrains to options packages. This SUV family (there are three separate Bronco models) has been engineered to take on some of the most rugged terrain on the planet, and while it's an all-new vehicle for the 2021 model year, it flaunts a retro design that takes heavy inspiration from the Bronco in its hey-day. Through Ford's intensive Built Wild R&D practices, these trail-tacklers have proven themselves in the Johnson Valley desert and all the way to the intense Baja 1,000, one of the world's most challenging off-road endurance races. Trims and Powertrains

As we said above, the 2021 Ford Bronco will be available in two- and four-door configurations with seven trim levels: the Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, and First Edition. The Bronco Sport will be sold under the same trim nomenclature, minus the Wildtrak. The standard engine powering the regular 2021 Ford Bronco is a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four that hammers out 270 hp and a best-in-class 310 lb.-ft. of torque. A twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 that generates a best-in-class 310 hp along with 400 lb.-ft. of torque is optional for most, but it's standard on the Wildtrak. A seven-speed manual transmission that's the first in this segment comes standard with the smaller engine, with that unique seventh gear strictly used for crawling over rocky terrain. Another segment-first, a 10-speed automatic transmission, is available for both powerplants. Part-time four-wheel drive is standard across the board, but an advanced automatic on-demand four-wheel drive system is offered.

As for the Bronco Sport, a 1.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost three-cylinder that coaxes out 181 hp and 190 lb.-ft. of torque comes standard on the Base, Big Bend, and Outer Banks trims. A 2.0-liter turbo EcoBoost with the advanced 4x4 system entices a best-in-class 245 hp and 275 lb.-ft. of torque and is included on the Badlands and First Edition. Both of those powerplants get an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Equipment in the Regular Bronco

The Base comes with, well, all of the basics, but you can customize it to your liking through a series of optional packages. The Big Bend is made for the casual off-roader, getting aluminum wheels and a power inverter. The Black Diamond enhances the off-road factor with a standard rear-locking differential, steel front and rear bumpers, rock rails, heavy-duty skid plates, and seven G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) modes, which are designed for navigating the most rugged trails. The waterproof interior features marine-grade vinyl seats, and it can all be hosed clean of mud and dust.

The Outer Banks is outfitted with 18-in. high-gloss black-painted aluminum alloy wheels, body-colored fender flares, and power-coated tube steps. The Badlands is engineered for the hardcore off-road enthusiast as it gets Bilstein positive-sensitive monotube shocks, stabilizer bar disconnect, and front- and rear-locking differentials. You'll also have a choice of including 33- or 35-in. mud and all-terrain tires.

The Wildtrak yields 35-inch tires (along with high-clearance fender flares), front and rear-locking differentials, trail control, a 4.7 final drive ratio with electronic-locking front and rear axles and a suspension lift kit. These features can be dispensed to every Bronco model in the lineup through the available Sasquatch Package. The Wildtrak also receives the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 and gets a black-painted hardtop, a black grille, black wheels, and unique hood graphics.

The First Edition is at the top of the 2021 Ford Bronco range and is specially designed for the die-hard fans who were eager enough to reserve it immediately following the July 13th live unveiling. It combines the mechanical specs of the Badlands, the interior of the Outer Banks, and the exterior of the Wildtrak. This one's a limited model, and reservations for it are already full (but keep in mind that some people could withdraw their reservations, meaning you may still get your chance). The Bronco two-door is only available with a hardtop roof, while the four-door gets a standard soft top. An upgrade for the two-door allows for some versatility, though, as the premium painted option gains a fourth removable section over the standard three. This breaks it into smaller parts and allows for easier storage. Speaking of which, the four-door has space for you to store the roof and doors in the cargo area, while the two-door requires you to leave them back at home.

Equipment in the Bronco Sport

The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is sold in Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, and First Edition trims. The Base comes with a safari-style roof and a terrain management system with five G.O.A.T. modes. It also provides a best-in-class 65.2 cu. ft. of cargo space behind the front row. The Big Bend gets unique features like zipper pockets, a MOLLE strap system, and rear flood lights. After an adventure, the rubberized cargo floor and easy-clean cloth interior make de-mudding simple.

The Outer Banks gets 18-inch machined-face aluminum ebony-painted wheels, a shadow black roof, and a formidable-looking black grille with white Bronco badging. The Badlands receives metal bash plates, off-road tires, advanced 4x4 trail control for off-road, and seven G.O.A.T. modes. Much like the regular 2021 Ford Bronco's First Edition trim, the Bronco Sport's is limited in supply, but you're still able to reserve one.

Off-Road Specifics

The 2021 Ford Bronco boasts best-in-class departure and breakover, meaning it can handle the sharp drops and steep inclines of off-road terrain better than its rivals (meaning the 2020 Jeep Wrangler). What's more, its available 11.6-in. of ground clearance is also best-in-class, as is its 33.5-in. of water fording (23.6-in. with the Bronco Sport). The Trail Control system lets you navigate rugged terrain with ease, while the optional Trail Turn Assist system reduces the turning radius in low-speed trail environments by applying the brakes to the inside rear wheel of the turning vehicle. Trail 1-Pedal Drive enables low-speed crawling and lets you bring the vehicle to a stop by simply lifting your foot off of the accelerator. To reserve your 2021 Ford Bronco, you'll need to go to Ford.com to register and pay a deposit of $100. In the build tool, select your preferred configuration, create a Ford Account, and select AutoFair Ford of Haverhill (which should show up based on the zip code you enter).
