Trim Levels

The 2020 Ford F-150 is available in six main trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. The base XL trim doesn't have many flashy bells or whistles, but it still comes standard with trailer sway control and pre-wired trailer connections. The XLT trim tacks on alloy wheels, front-seat lumbar adjustments, and an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia display with Ford's SYNC 3 technology, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Lariat adds push-to-start ignition, leather seating, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Moving to the higher trims, the King Ranch receives LED headlights, a remote tailgate release, a windshield wiper de-icer, a 110-watt household-style outlet, a heated steering wheel, and voice-activated navigation with SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link. The Platinum trim adds 20-inch aluminum wheels, rain-sensing wipers, a satin chrome two-bar style grille, and power-deployable running boards. To really load things up, the Limited trim gets larger 22-inch aluminum wheels, a moonroof, a 360-degree camera with split-view display, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology, and even more advanced safety features. There is also an off-roading Raptor variant, which has most of the same features as the XLT along with a reinforced frame, a modified long-travel suspension, skid plates, flared fenders, upgraded tires, a unique four-wheel drive system, and exclusive Raptor interior trim.

Mechanical Features

There are plenty of engine options, depending on what you are looking for out of your pickup. The base powertrain consists of a 3.3-liter V6 (290 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. of torque) mated to a six-speed automatic transmission; the other F-150 engines are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Next, there's a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 (325 hp, 400 lb.-ft.), followed by a 5.0-liter V8 (395 hp, 400 lb.-ft.) with best-in-class payload. The 3.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6 makes 375 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, giving it the highest torque output among all gas and diesel engines in the segment as well as a class-leading maximum tow rating of 13,200 lb. when properly configured. There's also a High Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost turbo V6 engine for the Limited and Raptor trims that puts out a best-in-class 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque. The available Power Stroke diesel V6 makes 250 horsepower and 440 lb.-ft. of torque and is capable of towing an outstanding 11,500 lb. when properly equipped. The 2020 F-150 excels at towing, partly due to its exclusive towing features like Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which makes towing as easy as rotating a knob in the direction you want your trailer to go. Four-wheel drive is standard on the Raptor and optional on the other trims. Depending on which engine and drivetrain you choose, the 2020 Ford F-150 can get up to 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, which is very good considering its raw power and size.

Safety and Technology

The 2020 Ford F-150 features state-of-the-art safety technology and driver aids that are helping to reinvent the driving experience. It even received a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for its outstanding results in government-issued collision tests. All trims come standard with pre-collision assist with automatic braking, but the full suite of Ford's Co-Pilot360 technology only comes on the Lariat and higher trims. Ford Co-Pilot 360 consists of automatic high beams, a rearview camera with dynamic hitch assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, a lane-keeping system, pro trailer backup assist, rain-sensing wipers, and a reverse sensing system.
